B I O G R A P H Y

Official biography: Sprung from, and deeply engaged in the independent music community as well as the anarchist and animal liberation-movement in Gothenburg, here's Sweden's new hope ANCHOR!

Formed in January 2007, not only to entertain but also provoke critical thought and inspire action ANCHOR threw themselves into the fray on a 16 day parade through nothern europe with Germany's finest, RITUAL only two months after the bands birth.

Musically ANCHOR is seeking to find the energy and inspiration bands they grew up listening to had. Bands like ABHINANDA, UNBROKEN, SHIELD and EARTH CRISIS to name a few of many. The outcome can be seen as a natural extension of how all of them are activists in one sense or the other. Be it through playing music, doing fanzines, promoting shows or getting active in local political groups.

ANCHOR's first release entitled "Captivity songs" manifests a band with an alarming need, to not only be creative and scream and shout but more importantly also to reach out and communicate ideas and feeling in an adequate way.
We feel that very few bands care to do this nowadays.

All of this together makes ANCHOR a band to be reckoned with for a long time in the future.

Reinstate your hearts!

Words from Refuse Records: Political Vegan Straight Edge Hardcore from Sweden. It's definitely one of the highlights of the Swedish HC scene in recent years, consist past and current members of such rad bands like DAMAGE CONTROL, SET MY PATH, SMACKDOWN, ANOTHER YEAR or GERILJA. Their sound is influenced by 90's sXe hardcore bands like TRIAL, UNBROKEN, MOUTHPIECE or REFUSED, but it can also appeal for fans of such current bands like VERSE or HAVE HEART. They're definitely on their own terms with the sound and their message of compassion and awareness. Hard-working band with impressive amount of the shows on their backs. They can ranks high among the best european hardcore acts right now!

Words from Let it Burn Records / Refuse Records: Hailing from the metal and hardcore hotbed of Sweden/Norway, ANCHOR bring a heavy, aggressive hardcore sound with howled vocals and devastating mosh parts, but not without its speed and urgency, taking cues from bands like JUDGE, ENTOMBED, SKITSYSTEM and VERSE. Members have done time in THE SMACKDOWN, BALANCE, DEAD VOWS, DAMAGE CONTROL and SET MY PATH, and their message is one of compassion and awareness.

Close to 300 shows in less than 4 years. Countless european tours, 2 tours of North America and way more to come. Anchor keeps proving to be one of Europe's most active and important bands.

The new ANCHOR-record is a natural progression from their previous work. The new ground they entered with Relations of Violence 7" has been further explored. The outcome is a record that sounds harder, filthier and yet more emotional than anything they done before.

Words from React! Records: ANCHOR started out in 2007 with the intention to be a vegan straight edge touring machine, and while that is still the case, the band has come to mean so much more. ANCHOR is an outlet for frustration, personal struggle, firm convictions and deeply rooted DIY ethics. For the five individuals in the band, ANCHOR is the outcome of their collective creative mind and serves its purpose as an essential part of their individual lives, as well as hopefully influencing and inspiring others.

ANCHOR’s work ethics are impeccable. The band has done countless European tours, two tours of North America and all in all about 300 shows in less than four years. With members who have previously spent time in bands with heavy tour schedules, one of ANCHOR’s main goals is to keep this pace, while spreading a message of compassion and awareness. Even though the band is spread out all over Sweden and Norway, ANCHOR keeps proving to be one of Europe’s most active bands.

In a way, 2011 marks a fresh start for ANCHOR with a new line-up and the new full length "RECOVERY", and there are no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
